Undersecretary Louis Napoleon C. Casambre is the executive director of DOST-ICTO, whose leadership has moved the agency forward in its new thrust to uplift the entrepreneurial spirit in the ICT industry. Monchito Ibrahim is Casambre’s deputy executive director for policies.

Filipino developers flock to Foursquare Hack Day Philippines

Foursquare Hack Day Philippines was a day of fun, competition, and some serious location-based mobile app development.

The highlights:
Makati - Dec 1, 2012

On December 1, the elevators leading to SMART' Communications 12th floor cafeteria "Sadoce" at its Makati HQ were jammed with software developers headed for Foursquare Hack Day Phliippines (an event also known by its Twitter hashtag #4SQHackPH).

For that Saturday, the cafeteria had transformed into an enormous "hackerspace", with its tables filled with developers, laptops, power strips, and energy drinks, eager to hunker down for a day of coding with the Foursquare API.

Judging from the numbers alone, the event was a huge success - 119 developers showed up (comprising 26 teams out of the 46 that had registered online) to compete for cash prizes and free accounts to pricey developer cloud services. Your social network profile could be key to higher pay

By Jaysee John Pingkian Billionaire IT entrepreneur has created a software package that he believes could revolutionize business. Marc Benioff discovered an unforeseen function of his product, the Salesforce Chatter. It was originally designed to help staff collaborate on projects. But he claims that he uses Chatter for keeping an eye on his employees because of it gives him “a lot of transparency” compared to emails.Chatter is loosely based on the system analysis and design of Facebook. Employees create their own profiles, form groups, post status updates and share information explicitly. This in turn gives individuals the chance to get noticed even if they don’t belong to top or middle management. They are the “strong individual contributors” who are intensifying the company in many ways like closing deals, fixing bugs or building products. But social networking may have its evils as the most superficial employees may be the only ones favored rather than the most resourceful or ind…

What you may not know about your PC

Notes from the Intel Blogger Workshop.
photo by Tony MaroUNDERSTANDING THE BASICSDon’t compare computers based on clock speeds unless they use processors from the same family such as Core, Celeron, Pentium and Core 2 Duo and have the same number of processing cores. Processors of different brands should not be compared using clock speed as their designs vary radically. 2GB of RAM is ideal for everyday users. Memory can be easily upgraded at a later point. If you need more capacity at a later stage, a cost effective DIY solution is to purchase an external USB 2.0 hard drive. Consider using Solid State Drives (SSD) because it has the capacity of 160GB and unlike traditional hard drives, there is no moving parts. This means quiet, more rugged, energy-efficient and faster system responsiveness. Only the computers with the most powerful processors can make full use of discrete graphics. Some Things I didn’t know Photoshop can do

August 6 is the Cebu Provincial Charter Day and is declared as a non-working holiday. Our company maximized this time by sending interns, like me, into training and this time, we were taught the basics Graphic Arts most specifically using Photoshop CS4. I was aware that this tool is super awesome but to my delight, there still are a lot things I’ve learned that Photoshop can do and I’m yet to discover more of them in the next few months. Vince dela Calzada, head of the arts department and graphic artists Amina Balocang, Francine Palo officiated the training with lecture at the boardroom in the morning and hands-on in the aftie. In the hands on, we were asked to make a mockup with total creative freedom. I’m not here to walk you through on Photoshop tricks as there are millions of resource you can access online like PSD.tutsplus. Anyway, here are some new things I learned during the whole day seminar: When designing for web you need to set your canvas to 1600x1000, 70 pixels. For …

Sunset Valley: An Idyllic Sims 3 Township

I, for one, have a penchant for illustrious homes and structures.

Sunset Valley is the only neighborhood shipped with The Sims 3 base game. It is colossal compared to the neighborhoods in previous The Sims games, having a total of 97 lots with various playable eccentric characters.

It mixes contemporary and even futuristic buildings and ideas with nostalgic vintage architecture and design rooted in American suburbs of the 1950s.

The description of this neighborhood reveals that The Sims 3 is indeed a prequel to The Sims and The Sims 2… …although The Sims 3 is the successor to both games.

Sunset Valley was apparently built before Pleasantview, and founded by the Goth Family.
